Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, treating the break as part of the object’s history rather than something to disguise. Gilgamesh for Creative Arts was the first studio in Jordan to teach it, and we still run it the slow way — across two days, because the process genuinely needs that time.
Why this workshop takes two days
A real Kintsugi repair cannot be rushed. Pieces have to be joined and left to set before the next stage can begin, and where fragments are missing you need to build up and shape a replacement before any gold is applied. Compressing that into an afternoon produces a decoration, not a repair.
You will work across two sessions of three to four hours each. Between them, your piece rests. What you take home is structurally sound and genuinely yours.
Bring your own piece, or use ours
Many people come with something that matters to them — a cup from a grandmother, a bowl broken in a move, a plate from a set that can no longer be replaced. If you would rather practise first, we will provide a piece for you.

Do I need to bring a broken object?
No. Bring one if you have something meaningful you would like repaired — many people do. If not, we will provide a piece for you to work on.
Why does Kintsugi take two days when your other workshops take an hour?
Because the materials need time to set between stages, and chip compensation requires building up and shaping missing sections before gold can be applied. Two sessions of three to four hours is the honest minimum for a repair that holds.
Can I eat or drink from the finished piece?
Traditional Kintsugi pieces are best treated as decorative or for dry use. We will explain how to care for your specific piece before you leave.
Is Kintsugi suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. Most people who join have never done it before. The pace is slow and guided throughout, which is part of why people find it calming.
Where is the workshop held?
At our heritage studio at 26 Al-Farazdaq Street, Jabal Al-Lweibdeh, Amman. We can also run Kintsugi as a corporate or private group session.
