If you would rather decorate than build, this is the session for you. Choose a ready-made bisque piece — a mug, dish, vase or figurine — and turn it into something of your own with ceramic paints. We fire it afterwards so it is usable, not just decorative.

The quickest way into ceramics

Pottery painting takes about an hour and needs no previous experience at all. It is the session people choose when they want something relaxing and low-pressure, or when they are bringing a group with mixed confidence levels.

Colour behaves differently in a kiln

One thing that surprises people: ceramic paints change in the firing. What looks chalky and pale going in can come out deep and glossy. We will show you how each colour will behave so you can plan your design rather than be surprised by it.

What you will learn

  • The difference between underglaze, overglaze and specialty ceramic paints
  • Brushwork, layering, masking and sponging
  • How glaze colours shift in the kiln and how to plan for it
  • Building a design from pattern, motif and colour theory
  • Working with the shape of the piece rather than against it

What is included

  • Guided session of about an hour
  • A ready-made bisque piece of your choice
  • All paints, brushes and tools
  • Firing and finishing
  • Unlimited drinks and snacks

Questions

Do I need to be good at painting?

No. We will show you techniques like sponging, masking and layering that produce good results without any drawing skill.

When can I collect my piece?

Pieces need firing after painting, so you collect yours later. We will tell you when it is ready.

Can I eat and drink from it?

Yes. We use food-safe glazes and fire the piece properly so it can be used every day.

Is this good for a group or birthday?

Very. It is short, easy and everyone leaves with something, which makes it our most popular choice for celebrations.
