About Gilgamesh for Creative Arts

Ceramic work at Gilgamesh for Creative Arts, Jabal Al-Lweibdeh, Amman

Gilgamesh for Creative Arts is an art studio and cafe in a heritage house in Jabal Al-Lweibdeh, Amman. We teach ten hands-on workshops, run corporate and private groups, host exhibitions and music nights, and serve food and drinks late.

Who runs it

Gilgamesh was founded by Arwa’ Debaja, a practising ceramicist who works in Kurinuki, Raku, Kintsugi and Chawan — traditional Japanese techniques rooted in Wabi-Sabi, the idea that imperfection, wear and repair are part of an object’s beauty rather than flaws in it.

That philosophy runs through everything here. It is why we teach Kintsugi as a genuine two-day repair rather than a quick decorative exercise, and why our pottery sessions leave the marks of the tool in the clay instead of smoothing them away.

You can see Arwa’s own ceramic work at arwadebajastudio.com.

The first Kintsugi studio in Jordan

We were the first place in Jordan to teach Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. People bring us objects that matter to them — a grandmother’s cup, a plate from a set that can no longer be replaced — and we repair them properly, or teach them to do it themselves.

Who we work with

Alongside individual visitors and tourists, we run staff wellbeing and team building programmes for institutions operating across the region — including PwC, USAID, ICRC, IRC, Talabat, MenaITech and URI. More on that on our team building page.

More than workshops

We also run photography, cinematography and acting courses, host art exhibitions, music nights and movie nights, and welcome people who simply want to sit with a coffee in a beautiful old house. There is an open-time policy on every workshop — finish your piece and stay as long as you like.
